In this week's Technology Today, we will run through Microsoft's NEW user interface, as well as their focus on AI and cloud-computing.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
The company is switching to the Fluent Design System, they premiered last year. In so, they will be simplifying ribbons, as well as implementing fresh icons and colors - to modernize the platform and highlight frequently used tools/resources, as they navigate toward cloud-computing and artificial intelligence.
The icon and color updates will roll out right away, to all verticals. Luckily, the NEW ribbon design will launch on Office.com, first, prior to desktop applications; as they anticipate quarrels over time to adaptations. Microsoft realizes users have 'muscle memory' in and around their most popular platforms - Excel, PowerPoint and Word - that being said, their main focus is to minimize major changes, so work function, efficiency and productivity won't suffer, at the cost of relearning.
WHAT'S IN STORE FOR US?
In the months to come, Microsoft will install their 'Zero Query Search', an AI feature that populates suggestions in the search bar. A feature we can't wait to try out - as it will drastically improve outcome and end user experience. ZQS is already accessible for commercial users on Office.com, SharePoint and the Outlook app. The web version of Outlook, should see this feature by this August - score!
